3. You have seen THIS way too many times before the movie has started...
My name is Zack, owner and operator of Lisa's Passion for Popcorn, I love what I do and truly have a passion for our product, our wonderful teammates at the shop, and especially our clients! But my story, truly starts with Lisa's story.
Our founder, (my mom!) Lisa married into the Call family in 1983. My grandpa Bill Call made caramel popcorn from a long standing family recipe in the back room of the Capitol and Roy Theaters to sell at their concession stand. In our family we've been in the popcorn business for a LONG time, but this was the first time Lisa had been around it. Immediately excited by the possibilities Lisa was interested and Bill saw the opportunity to teach Lisa this skill that had run in the family for generations.
Lisa got busy making Caramel, Cheese, and Cinnamon popcorn out of the back room of the Roy Theater (before I was even born!). One such busy day Lisa found herself out of Cinnamon oil, and sent Bill to the drug store to buy sucker oil to see if it would work as a substitute to the Cinnamon oil she was using. Sure enough, the oil was a success, and my mom realized the potential of flavored popcorn on a bigger scale.
Eventually, Lisa found herself Christmas Eve staying past midnight to fill a large order (Which has been a regular occurrence ever since!). The next day she showed up for Christmas dinner with blisters on her feet and hands from the long night of cooking. She told Bill that she was done with the popcorn business for good! While she still loved popcorn and had a passion for her ideas, the work was GRUELING! Bill, like any good father-in-law said "Don't worry about it, if you take a week off everything will be fine!" When Lisa returned, Bill had given her the priceless gift of her first electric kettle. Lisa was back in the popcorn business, this time, for good!
34 years later, 'Lisa's' now has five electric kettles (with BIGGER and BADDER ones on the way!) and a high capacity popcorn popper in a commercial kitchen, producing over 30 different flavors of popcorn! Although there isn't an old copper kettle in a movie theater's back room anymore, her popcorn is still noted for its innovative flavors and unparalleled quality.
My grandpa Bill passed away in 2011 with plenty of time to see his daughter's passion go from a prep table in the back room of the Roy Theater to a thriving business located in downtown Kaysville, Utah.
In 2016 after 32 years creating the world's finest gourmet popcorn Lisa retired to enjoy being a grandma to our 2-year old Jay full time, and working hard as General Manager of the Kaysville Theater (My grandpa Bill's primary business). She has now turned the reigns over to my wife Brooke, and I (can you believe it?). We are excited and honored to carry on what she started and share Lisa's passion with the whole world!
