Fall is absolutely, positively my favorite time of the year, there's nothing that's even close! The temperature drops, the leaves change, Packer football starts, the World Series, Halloween, my BIRTHDAY, and soooo many other things.
Growing up it's always been the same way, Halloween was my favorite holiday as a kid, my mom, Lisa (yes, THAT Lisa) made home-made donuts, I did marching band in high school, which in addition to being super nerdy is also a BIG DEAL in October, and after marrying into the Ferguson family 5 years ago EVERY SUNDAY in the Fall is Superbowl Sunday.
But with everything going on in our crazy lives there is one event that means "Fall is here!" more than anything else.
As most of you know I grew up in the popcorn shop with my mom, Lisa, and more than any of the sights and sounds in the shop I remember the smells! The smell of Caramel popcorn was in every hug my mom ever gave me as a child. One of my favorite all-time smells I still get everyday is the bleach smell just after the shop has been cleaned head to toe before we open the store every morning. Peppermint announced Christmas was here and (because it was highly concentrated for large batches) was so strong our eyes watered and burned.
Like a lot of the other seasons, Fall brings it's own special smells, crisp fall air, raked up leaves, and many more. The best of all of these though? The FIRST batch of Pumpkin Spice popcorn here at Lisa's. It simply wouldn't be Fall without it! I can't help but stop whatever is going on and take a big breath in and savor the moment. Fortunately for me, that moment happened this last week. The most wonderful time of the year is HERE. Nothing can turn a busy day into a spectacular moment faster than that one realization.
