Hey there popcorn-istas! It's Zack again just giving you a look into the day-to-day of the real life of Lisa's Passion for Popcorn.
For the last 18 months or so Brooke and I have been trying to REDUCE the amount of flavors we make here at the popcorn shop. That might sound crazy, but to be honest, when we had 83 different flavors we weren't doing our best to make sure EACH and every recipe was as good as it possibly could be. Customers also got frustrated that we didn't have their favorite flavors in stock all the time (83 flavors in our tiny shop is IMPOSSIBLE to keep on the shelves). So then we started battling about the best way to slim down our menu.
The first round of cuts were really easy. There were a couple flavors we only made 1 batch of in an entire YEAR. Gone-zo! Poof! Bam! Down we went to 70 something flavors. The next round of cuts were tough. Brooke and I went back and forth, enlisted the help of our staff and finally got us down to 62 flavors. The NEXT round is where it became nearly impossible, now we all have some flavors we personally like that are on the verge of being... gulp!... DISCONTINUED.
One of my personal favorites, Chocolate Mint Chip, was in the discussion. How could we lose Chocolate Mint Chip? It's iconic, it's like apple pie, or baseball cards, it's just so nostalgically American I couldn't bear to see it go. So we turned the decision over to YOU.
We decided to put the steering wheel back where it belongs, in YOUR HANDS. So if you haven't heard already, we're really excited to be introducing something called "SAVE THE FLAVOR."
What we decided to do is allow you to pick which flavor stays, and which flavor goes! How it works is, we've made 1 FINAL BATCH of three flavors: Bubble Gum, Chocolate Mint Chip, and Razz Ma Tazz (Raspberry Tangerine and Vanilla). When they sell out we find out which one was the last to sell out and it gets CUT FOREVER from our flavor list! It's been a ton of fun and people have been coming in the store to play along, or buying online on our SAVE THE FLAVOR tab of our website.
The best part of this activity is my personal favorite, Chocolate Mint Chip is safely in first place... at least for now!
